Herring Named CAA Player of the Week

Senior guard Erik Herring has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) men’s basketball Player of the Week. It is the first time Herring has been so honored by the CAA.
Herring had an outstanding week to help lead George Mason to a pair of CAA victories at home. He scored 47 points, and had 10 rebounds and five assists as the Patriots defeated Virginia Commonwealth University, 99-79, last Wednesday and defeated James Madison University, 79-66, on Saturday at Homecoming. George Mason finished its home schedule with a 10-1 record at the Patriot Center this year.
Herring had 17 points, including two three-point baskets, in the Patriots’ victory over Virginia Commonwealth, then he scored a career-high 30 points and added seven rebounds against James Madison on “Senior Day.” He also established a career-high against Madison with nine free throws and tied his career-high with nine field goals. Herring also scored 14 points in a 16-3 Patriot run late in the game that ensured the victory.
For the season, Herring leads the Patriots in three-point shooting with 55 shots made, and he ranks second on the team with 15.9 points (fourth in the CAA) and 2.7 assists per game. On George Mason’s career lists, he ranks 14th in scoring with 1,232 points, fourth in three-point field goals with 150, sixth in steals with 137, 12th in assists with 249, tied for 13th in blocked shots with 46, and 20th in rebounding with 379.
