Melo Leads Mason Men’s Volleyball in National Statistics

Senior outside hitter Andre Melo ranks in the top ten in two statistical categories to lead four Patriots in the NCAA men’s volleyball national statistics released last week.
Melo leads the nation in service ace average with 1.00 ace per game. He set a school record in single-match aces in the Patriots’ season-opening win over Southampton with eight aces. This season Melo has added to his offensive power with accuracy, as he leads the team with a .485 hitting percentage to rank eighth nationally.
Freshman Brad Kniewel makes his first appearance in the national statistics, ranking sixth in dig average with 2.28 digs per game. He recorded a career-high 10 digs in George Mason’s win over New York University on Feb. 10. Junior setter Jonathan Hanners qualifies for a top-10 ranking at ninth in the nation in assists average with 12.86 assists per game. Hanners posted a season-high 59 assists at Penn State University on Jan. 26.
Junior outside hitter Jason Wight comes in at 17th in service ace average with .444 aces per game. He was nationally ranked in ace average for seven weeks last season.
