The Duke Ellington School of the Arts joins George Mason to commemorate the first Black History Month of the new millennium in a special concert titled “A Millennium Celebration of the Spiritual.” Singers, dancers, and historians unite to reveal the soul of the spiritual, from its African roots to its contemporary form.

The performance features Detra Battle, soprano; Michael Stroud, baritone; Mason associate professor and operatic performer Patricia Miller, mezzo-soprano; Boris Willis, choreographer and dancer; and the Mason choruses. Marilyn McKenzie, Mason associate professor of English, narrates.

The concert is held at 8 p.m. in the Concert Hall.
