Three GMU-TV shows recently received awards of excellence. Mason Sidelines, Shenandoah Valley, and The Edges of Virginia were honored by the Communicator Awards, a national awards program.
Mason Sidelines, the university’s sports show, won an Award of Distinction. Produced by Richard Wood, senior producer and director for GMU-TV, the show stars Ron Sinacore, affirmative action plan and compliance coordinator; Maurice Scherrens, senior vice president; Micky McDade, associate athletic director for aquatics and recreational sports; and Mike Tapscott, former director of Minority Student Affairs.
The Edges of Virginia also received an Award of Distinction and Shenandoah Valley received an honorable mention. The two shows are part of geography instructor Charlie Grymes’ Geography of Virginia telecourse. Rich Eggleton, senior producer and director for GMU-TV, produced the geography modules, Susan Kehoe, director of GMU-TV, directed them, and Wood edited the modules.
The Communicator Awards recognize outstanding work in the field of communications. Industry professionals judge entries and award companies and individuals whose talent exceeds industry standards. There were more than 3,000 entries in this year’s competition.
