For the second time this season, George Mason senior George Evans has been selected as the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for men’s basketball.
Evans, who also earned Player of the Week honors on Dec. 26, was selected for the eighth time in his career (three times as a junior, twice as a sophomore, and once as a freshman). The two-time defending CAA Player of the Year received the honor for averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds per game as he helped George Mason to a split of conference games last week. The Patriots lost at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Wednesday, 72-65, and defeated Old Dominion University at home Saturday, 81-76, to improve to 9-6 overall, 4-2 in the CAA.
Evans continued his outstanding play, posting 26 points and 10 rebounds at VCU (including 22 points in the second half) and adding 16 points and 12 rebounds vs. Old Dominion. In a recent seven-game stretch, he is averaging 17.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game, and he is shooting 62.5 percent.
