Sophomore Donnie DeFilippis and senior Sean Shea each had an outstanding performance at the 37th annual Midlands Championships Friday and Saturday at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
A finalist in the 141-pound class, DeFilippis (12-3 this season) finished higher than any George Mason wrestler ever has at Midlands. Shea (10-5) placed in the top 12 at 125 pounds for the second time in his three trips to Midlands.
The Midlands Championships brings together the top collegiate and amateur wrestlers in the country. For collegians, it ranks second in prestige to only the NCAA Championships.
George Mason returns to action as a team on Saturday, Jan. 6, at the Millersville Invitational in Pennsylvania.
