The Colonial Athletic Association yesterday announced that the University of Delaware, Hofstra University, Drexel University, and Towson University will join the conference, effective with the beginning of the 2003–04 academic year.

The four newcomers join George Mason, James Madison University, the University of North Carolina–Wilmington, Old Dominion University, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the College of William and Mary to form a 10-team conference that will conduct championships in 19 sports.

President Alan Merten was on hand to participate in the announcement, which was made at a press conference at the MCI Center in Washington, D.C. With the addition of these four institutions, Merten said the members of the CAA have “an opportunity to establish new academic partnerships that benefit our students, our graduates, our faculties, our communities, and our respective regions.”

The press conference was broadcast live by Home Team Sports. For more information, contact the Sports Information Office at x33260.
