A gallery talk with artist Walter Ratzat takes place today at 4:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Gallery. A reception in the Johnson Center Gallery follows at 5:30 p.m. Ratzat is available to discuss his provocative multimedia exhibit, Processing, which combines video, sound, sculpture, and computers in a blend of performance art and philosophy. In addition, Ratzat himself figures within the artwork. Both the gallery talk and the reception are free and open to the public.
Ratzat’s exhibit has been on display in the Fine Arts Gallery since Nov. 20 and will continue to be displayed through Dec. 22. Those interested can view Processing Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
When he is not devoting himself to his art, Ratzat works as a full-time software developer of medical training programs. A resident of Silver Springs, Ratzat holds a B.F.A. from Virginia Commonwealth University and an M.F.A. from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His work has previously been displayed at Art-O-Matic and Birth in Washington, D.C., and the Gudelsky Gallery of the Maryland College of Art and Design.
