Gov. Jim Gilmore has announced additional holiday time for state employees during winter break and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The revised schedule for George Mason is outlined below.
The university observance of the winter holidays will begin with a half-day on Friday, Dec. 22, and continue through Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001. Employees return to work on Jan. 3. For the purpose of holiday leave, a “half-day” has been defined as equivalent to four hours for full-time classified staff and administrative/professional faculty members.
In addition, effective Dec. 21, eight hours of leave will be added to the compensatory leave balance of full-time classified staff members. Proportionate additions will be made for part-time classified staff members. Eight hours of leave will be added to the annual leave balance of full-time administrative/professional faculty members, with a proportionate amount for part-time administrative/professional faculty. These additional hours are to be taken by June 30, 2001.
Beginning in 2001, Martin Luther King Jr. Day will be observed as a holiday on the third Monday in January. This year, George Mason will observe the holiday on Jan. 15.
Consult web sites for holiday operating schedules for the library, the Johnson Center, and other units. Classified staff members who are required to work on designated holidays are eligible for compensatory leave for the hours worked. Administrative/professional faculty members required to work on a designated holiday should arrange alternate time off with their supervisors.
