Because of her dedication, enthusiasm, and outstanding work, Emily Yaghmour, public relations specialist in the University Relations department since October 1998, is December’s Employee of the Month.
Yaghmour first came to Mason as an English graduate student and started working in University Publications as an editorial apprentice. “It was a perfect arrangement for me because it allowed me to put into immediate practice what I was learning in the classroom. I am so glad I chose Mason for my graduate study. My instructors were outstanding…[and] my coworkers are very creative, skilled people. I’ve learned a lot from them,” says Yaghmour.
One of Yaghmour’s primary responsibilities is writing Mason Gazette articles about numerous university departments. “George Mason is filled with fascinating people who are doing important work, and I’ve been fortunate enough to get to write about a few of them. That’s been one of the most satisfying parts of my job,” she says.
Yaghmour often writes articles about University Computing and Information Systems (UCIS), and Keith Segerson, executive director of UCIS, is quick to praise her work. “What Emily brings to her work is a very high level of professionalism combined with a broad understanding and enthusiasm for the technology field…. Working with Emily is a pleasure,” says Segerson.
Her coworkers agree that her work ethic is exceptional. “One of the many things I like best about Emily is her willingness to take on additional assignments to serve the greater good of University Relations,” says Daniel Walsch, Media Relations.
