Economics professor Willem Thorbecke will give a lecture today based on his most recent paper, “Reconciling Free Trade, Worker’s Rights, and Environmental Protections.” Thorbecke, a 1999-2000 Fenwick Fellow, concludes in his paper that legitimate concerns about workers’ rights and environmental protection should be dealt with in an organization other than the World Trade Organization. He also argues that the United States should not unilaterally dictate to other countries which labor and environmental policies they should implement.
The lecture is held from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Johnson Center Instruction Room (Room 228), and is free and open to the public.
