George Mason freshman Aline Pereira was voted the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie of the Year, and named to the All-CAA First Team by the league’s seven head coaches. A two-time CAA Player of the Week honoree, the outside hitter led the conference in kills (5.37 per game), was third in hitting percentage (.324), and tied for seventh in service aces (0.39 per game).
Outside hitter Natalia Torres-Tirado, the 1998 CAA Rookie of the Year, was also named to the All-CAA First Team, making her second straight appearance on the team. The junior ranks in the top 10 in four of the league’s six statistical categories–third in kills (4.20 per game), fourth in digs (3.03 per game), eighth in hitting percentage (.273), and tied for seventh in service aces. Senior Daniela Pastore was named to the All-CAA Second Team.
In this weekend’s CAA tournament, the Patriots fell to second-ranked James Madison University, 0 to 3 (5 to 15, 6 to 15, 11 to 15), in the finals.
