Mason Home Page Redesign to Launch Jan. 23

January 20, 2012Print-Friendly Version

When you visit www.gmu.edu on Monday, Jan. 23, you’ll find a whole new look and streamlined navigation.

Mason’s home page, managed by University Relations, was redesigned in response to analytics on the site’s usage over the past three years. The new site’s main goal is to help users find the information they want more easily through improved navigation and content organization. The site reflects advanced best practices in university/college sites, including cleaner design, which addresses the element of ‘information overload’ and helps users find information more quickly. The site offers “quick links” to destinations most often used.

As part of the redesign, four new pages—Students, Faculty and Staff, Schools and Colleges and Centers and Institutes—have been developed.  “About Mason” is a new site that provides an overview of the university for prospective students and other visitors.

The home page was designed and developed by the web communications staff in Creative Services. Content will be managed by Creative Services.

Other changes associated with the redesign include a new university news page, newsdesk.gmu.edu, which will include a section that will replace the Mason Gazette for faculty and staff news. The news page will be managed by the Office of Media and Public Relations.
