Mason’s Center for World Religions, Diplomacy and Conflict Resolution (CRDC) in the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution was one of 10 recipients of the BMW Award for Intercultural Innovation presented at the fourth UN Alliance of Civilizations Forum in Doha, Qatar, on Dec. 12, 2011.

According to the forum, “This award represents a new kind of partnership between the private sector and the United Nations system that aims to select highly innovative projects that promote exchange and cross-cultural understanding, and make a vital contribution to safety and peace in societies around the world.”

CRDC is directed by Marc Gopin, and Scott Cooper and Aziz Abu Sarah are co-executive directors.  Abu Sarah attended the forum and accepted the award, which recognized CRDC’s recent conference in Istanbul that brought together more than 120 imams, civil society leaders and Islamic scholars from around the world for a discussion on Islamic cooperation for a peaceful future in Afghanistan.
