The Theater of the First Amendment (TFA) hosts First Light: Theater at the Moment of Discovery, a festival celebrating the development of new plays. Held in TheaterSpace in the Center for the Arts complex, Nov. 10 through 12 and Nov. 17 through 19, the festival offers six one-hour staged readings covering subjects including religion, history, and mysticism.
The festival explores what it takes to get a play from an idea to the stage. It involves audience members in an aspect of the theater often hidden from view. Featured playwrights and directors in the festival include metro area award winners Derek Nguyen, Naoko Maeshiba, Paul D’Andrea, Sherry Kramer, Tom Prewitt, Karen Evans, Mary Hall Surface, and David Maddox.
The festival runs Fridays from 7:30 to 10 p.m., and Saturdays and Sundays from 2 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 per day, which includes admission to the one-hour readings, question and answer sessions with the artists, and evening receptions.
