The University Dispute Resolution Project (UDRP) is holding a Cultural Diversity in Mediation training session Saturday, Nov. 4, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Enterprise Hall, Room 176. The courses teach how to understand your own biases so they do not interfere with the mediation process, and to quickly resolve common problems that stem from cultural differences.
The moderator for the event is David Wortham, a certified mediator and experienced trainer in conflict management, cultural diversity, and equal employment opportunity issues. In recent years, he has been actively involved in high school peer mediation and community youth programs.
The training does not contribute toward mediation certification, however it provides important tools and awareness that enhances mediation skills. Prior mediation training is recommended, but not required. The cost is $50 for George Mason graduate students, faculty, and staff, and $40 for undergraduate students. To receive a $10 discount, register before Wednesday, Oct. 25. For more information, or to register, contact Dawn Gresham at x32887 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
