The George Mason University Board of Visitors (BOV) held its first meeting of the semester on Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Among the action items approved were:

  • A new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing, based in the Department of English, College of Humanities and Social Sciences.
  • A new interdisciplinary Master of Science in Neuroscience, operating under the auspices of the Neuroscience Advisory Council.
  • A change in the name of the Master of Science in Health Systems Management to Master of Healthcare Administration, based in the College of Health and Human Services.

These changes must be approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia before implementation.

The BOV also approved emeritus status for Edgar Sibley as Professor Emeritus of Computer Science.

An action item to move forward with plans for a Mason campus in Korea in the Incheon Free Economic Zone was postponed for more study.

Finally, the BOV approved a Six-Year Plan for the university for FY 2013-FY 2018, which follows the strategic direction set forth in the university’s 2014 Strategic Plan. The plan covers undergraduate and graduate initiatives, enrollment projections, growth in degrees, regional campuses, research, financial assumptions and infrastructure strategies, among other subjects. The plan and more details are available at the BOV website.
