Plans for the fifth annual celebration of the first George Mason men’s and women’s basketball practices of the year are nearly finalized, and the 2000 event promises to be the biggest and best ever. Mason Midnight Madness is held on Friday, Oct. 13, at the Patriot Center. Doors open at 10:45 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
United Parcel Service (UPS) is the title sponsor of “UPS Presents Mason Midnight Madness,” which has become a rite of fall on the Fairfax Campus. More than 2,000 fans are expected to attend the festivities, which feature pre-practice games for fans, events, and interactive competitions. Also included are dance routines from the nationally recognized George Mason cheerleaders and the Masonettes dance team, innovative introductions of the basketball teams, and an atmosphere that promotes boisterous family fun.
This year’s “survivor” theme promises to provide excitement and entertainment for all who attend. Among the preliminary events are Musical Survivor, the Aquatic Center’s faculty and staff Elephant Race, the Bookstore’s Who Wants to Win Books for a Year, Broadside‘s Money Scramble, and Parking Services’s Three-Point Shot Competition.
In a new twist, an impressive indoor fireworks display will welcome the men’s and women’s basketball players when they are introduced at midnight, the first allowable time for organized practice. The late-night session will end with brief scrimmages by both teams.
