Mason celebrates faculty research at the 2011 Fall Convocation on Wednesday, Sept. 21, at 3 p.m. in Harris Theater. The entire campus community, including faculty, staff, alumni and students, is invited to attend.

The convocation will be simulcast at the Prince William and Arlington Campuses for those unable to travel to Fairfax. At the Prince William Campus, the program can be viewed in Bull Run Hall, Room 254. At the Arlington Campus, the program can be viewed in Founders Hall, Room 119, and in Hazel Hall, Room 350.

President Alan Merten will host the 2011 Fall Convocation. Other speakers include Provost Peter Stearns, who will discuss the linkage between research and teaching, and Roger Stough, vice president for research and economic development, who will give an overview of research at Mason.

Also, three Mason faculty members will discuss their current research efforts. The three presenters are: Kevin Clark, associate professor of education; Padmanabhan Seshaiyer, associate professor of mathematics; and Cynthia Kierner, professor of history.

Convocation provides the campus community with an opportunity to gather and discuss various issues of concern and learn more about the work taking place at Mason. This year’s focus on faculty research is designed to showcase the significant strides the university has made in this area and highlight the work of individual faculty members that is representative of Mason’s emergence as a major research institution.
