George Mason shows its support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month by hosting information fairs each Monday and Thursday throughout October from noon to 1 p.m. on the Fairfax Campus in SUB I, Room B. The fairs are also held at the Arlington Campus on Wednesday, Oct. 18, from noon to 1 p.m. in the Red Brick Building, Room 244, and at the Prince William Campus Monday, Oct. 30, from noon to 1 p.m. Check local flyers for the location at the Prince William Campus.
The information fairs, cosponsored by the Office of Occupational Health, Human Resources, Community Health, and the Health and Wellness Center, provide handouts from the National Cancer Society, videos on the importance of self-breast exams, and mammography and computerized risk assessment software programs. A nurse is on site to teach participants how to do self-breast examinations, and she is also available for private, confidential consultations. The information fairs are open to all Mason employees and students.
The sponsors also plan to distribute approximately 3,000 pink ribbons to Mason female employees, requesting that they wear the ribbons during the month to show their support.
