The College of Visual and Performing Arts’ (CVPA) sixth annual ARTS by George! celebration will take place Saturday, Sept. 24, at 5 p.m. at the Fairfax Campus.

This unique benefit event provides scholarship support for CVPA students in visual arts, dance, music, theater, film and video studies, computer game design and arts management. It also supports the Center for the Arts’ Great Performances at Mason series.

ARTS by George! guests will experience multidisciplinary performances and exhibitions by talented CVPA students and faculty. And if that’s not enough, a sumptuous spread of food and beverages will also be provided.

One of the highlights of the evening is a silent auction of arts-related items, services and experiences to include artwork, private lessons with CVPA faculty, tickets to sporting events and vacations to destinations around Virginia and the country.

The evening culminates with a dynamic joint performance in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall by celebrated vocalist and pianist Michael Feinstein — who appeared at the inaugural ARTS by George! in 2006 ― and award-winning conductor, composer and instrumentalist Marvin Hamlisch. Together, these two musical giants pay tribute to the Great American Songbook, showcasing the best of popular music from Broadway to Hollywood.

A private champagne and dessert reception onstage with the artists immediately follows the performance.

The celebration’s complete schedule follows:

5–7:30 p.m. ― Multidisciplinary showcases of the arts from all academic disciplines in CVPA.

5–7:30 p.m. ― Silent auction of unique arts-related items, services and experiences.

5–7:30 p.m. ― Food and drinks provided throughout the performance spaces and the tented plaza.

8 p.m. ― Gala performance by Feinstein and Hamlisch in the Center for the Arts Concert Hall.

9:45 p.m. ― Champagne and dessert reception on stage with Feinstein and Hamlisch.

All-inclusive tickets are $200 per person. Contact Deborah Paez Hoesly at or 703-993-4188, or visit to order tickets or to inquire about sponsorship opportunities and benefits.
