What has quickly emerged as one of the premier annual campus events is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13, at the Patriot Center. The fifth annual “Mason Midnight Madness,” celebrating the beginning of official practice for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, promises to continue its tradition of zany contests, high-decibel competitions, and student and family fun.
Doors will open at 10:45 p.m. this year, and the pre-practice activities will feature a “survivor” theme, based on the popular TV series. There will be plenty of games and interactive events for fans, as well as entertainment featuring the cheerleaders and Masonettes. The winning lip synch group from the annual student-athlete picnic will also be invited to performed. Last year, the wrestling team performed a version of “Time of Our Lives” from the movie Dirty Dancing.
Kevin Heilbronner, public address announcer for George Mason athletics and voice of the Washington Wizards and Washington Mystics, will serve as master of ceremonies.
Fans wishing to suggest ideas based on the “survivor” theme can contact Andy Ruge, assistant athletic director for promotions, at firstname.lastname@example.org. The event is free and open to the public.
