Pat Carretta Named Advisor of the Year

Pat Carretta, associate dean of University Life and director of University Career Services, was selected as the Advisor of the Year at the annual conference of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars (NSCS) held in August. NSCS is an honor society for underclassmen based on scholarship, leadership, and service.
Caretta serves as the advisor for the George Mason chapter of the society. NSCS has more than 100,000 lifetime members and 122 chapters nationwide. The society’s primary community service activity is “Planning for College Success” a program through which NSCS members mentor seventh grade students to encourage them to pursue a college career.
William Crowe Jr., a retired admiral in the U.S. Navy, serves as chairman of the NSCS Board of Regents. Other Board members include Maya Angelou, Walter Cronkite, Federico Pena, Colin Powell, and Marian Wright Edelman.
