General Education Correction

The general education article that ran on the Daily Gazette on Sept. 11 contained inaccuracies regarding the framework and the course approval guidelines. The following paragraph includes the corrections.

The purpose of the Sept. 8 general education meeting was to discuss guidelines and catalogue copy for courses to fulfill the framework. The framework part of the process is finished and was passed by the Board of Visitors (BOV) on May 17, 2000. Faculty at the meeting were not proposing making changes to the framework itself, therefore faculty are not presenting any framework changes to the BOV. The three categories mentioned in the article, and the specific goals and requirements within them, are from the framework that the BOV approved. The document described in the article as a “work in progress” is the course approval guide, not the framework itself.
