George Mason senior forward Eduardo Lima has been named the inaugural Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week for the 2000 men’s soccer season.
Lima scored four goals and added an assist to lead George Mason to a pair of victories over the Labor Day weekend at the James Madison University/Sheraton Four Points Hotel Invitational in Harrisonburg. The Patriots defeated Appalachian State University 4 to 0 on Friday and edged Iona College 5 to 4 on Saturday.
George Mason’s leading scorer each of his first three seasons (1996 to 1998), Lima showed no signs of rust after missing the entire 1999 season following surgery to correct a heart arrhythmia last August. He had a goal and an assist in the victory over Appalachian State and recorded three goals in the win over Iona.
Lima’s four goals and one assist for nine points rank him at the top of the CAA statistical leaders in goals and points. On George Mason’s career scoring lists, he ranks third with 99 points, ties third for assists with 21, and ranks fifth for goals with 39. Lima is one of only four George Mason players to have 20 goals and 20 assists for his career.
“After having to miss last season, Eduardo is dedicated to playing well this season,” says head coach Gordon Bradley. “To that end, he is off to a fine start.”
