Patriot Pack Out, the annual event that reduces waste at Mason by collecting unwanted food, clothing and small appliances, which are then delivered to local charities at the end of the academic year, was a record-setting success this year.

According to the Office of Community Relations, which organizes the collection, donations totaled 9,540 pounds, breaking the previous record by more than 1,000 pounds.

The university donated 1,217 pounds of food to Food for Others, and 8,323 pounds of clothing and small appliances to the Clock Tower Thrift Shop in Falls Church, which benefits Northern Virginia Family Services.

ā€œIā€™m really proud of Patriot Pack Out and what the Mason community has done,ā€ says Dennis Kisielewski, database administrator in Community Relations who has been part of the program for five years.
