With time quickly dwindling until the start of the Olympic Games, several American athletes are still hoping to fulfill their Olympic dreams. Tomorrow, there will be an Olympic qualifying meet at the George Mason Fieldhouse, where several athletes will attempt to make the American team in the women’s triple jump.
To secure a spot on the team, the athlete must jump the Olympic “A” standard of 46 feet, 5.25 inches.
Competitors include Sheila Hudson, the American record holder in the triple jump; Tiombe Hurd, a graduate of James Madison University; and Nicole Gamble, a University of North Carolina graduate. Gamble, the winner at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Sacramento, already earned a spot on the Olympic team but needs to meet the “A” standard to secure her position.
The meet is free and open to the public. For more information, contact men’s assistant track and field coach Robby Farias at x33284.
