Presidents Park comes alive today with excited students and anxious parents sharing the first-time ritual of moving the family freshman to campus. President Alan Merten and his wife, Sally, will be on hand from 9 to 11 a.m. to greet families as they arrive. The day is filled with check-ins for university services, an orientation for international students, and meetings for resident and commuter students.

After taking care of business, students can relax and enjoy dinner–served by faculty and staff members–at the welcome reception and barbecue on the Johnson Center North Plaza beginning at 4 p.m. Later in the evening, students get acquainted amid dancing and partying in the SUB II Ballroom.

Shopping trips to area malls are planned throughout the day Saturday, and Casino Night begins at 9 p.m. in the Concert Hall. On Sunday, students have an opportunity to tour Gunston Hall, home of George Mason, and visit Potomac Mills, the largest outlet mall on the East Coast. The day ends on a sweet note with a barbecue and ice cream social at 4:30 p.m. at Presidents Park.
