A student-created auction that raised more than $10,000 for scholarships last year: How could GBAY not be repeated?
No worries. Mark your calendar for Thursday, March 3. Tickets will soon be available, either $5 in advance or $7 at the door. The auction, which offers both silent bidding and bidding from the floor, will take place in the Johnson Center Atrium at 6 p.m.
Last year, some auctioned “items” included having a Mason smoothie named for you, getting a plum parking space and spending the day as Mason’s president. This year, featured items include a book autographed by Snooki from reality show “Jersey Shore,” tickets to the National Crime and Punishment Museum and a pair of tickets to any 2011 concert at Jiffy Lube Live.
“GBAY is really just an awesome opportunity for students, faculty and the whole Mason community to give back to themselves while getting the chance to purchase some very hard-to-find items,” says Stacey Fernandes, a Mason student and director of GBAY.
“We get donations from all over — from small local places like the Hard Times Cafe to bigger organizations … The Redskins Cheerleaders even gave us a signed calendar!”
According to Fernandes, GBAY is an event created by the students, for the students.
“Every penny goes right back into money that goes to student scholarships, so really, students are giving a little to get a whole lot more.”
