The Fairfax Campus will be filled with incoming students over the next two months as orientation starts today.
Two-day freshman orientations are held June 22 and 23, July 10 and 11, July 17 and 18, July 24 and 25, and July 27 and 28. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. on the first day, and the program concludes at 4 p.m. the following day. The same schedule applies for undeclared freshman orientations, which are held on July 6 and 7, 13 and 14, and 20 and 21. One-day transfer orientations are broken down into daytime and evening sessions–the daytime programs on July 31, August 1, and August 22 run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and the evening sessions on June 27, August 2, and August 23 run from 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Orientation activities include academic meetings, small-group projects, placement exams, e-mail activation, class registration, and entertainment. A new tradition also begins this year when the incoming students paint their names on the “Freshman Wall.” Located on the east side of the Performing Arts Building (facing the Johnson Center), the wall was repainted this week with the words “Class of 2004” and the Patriots logo on a white background. All students involved in the freshman orientations will paint their names on the wall, and it will be displayed for a full year.
