The Independence Day holiday schedule has been expanded to include additional
holiday time granted by Gov. Jim Gilmore. The university will be closed July 3 and
4, consistent with other state offices.
As no classes are scheduled for July 3, the academic calendar is not affected.
Instructors who have made alternative arrangements for classes on July 3 should
coordinate with their department chairs or deans to ensure access to university
facilities. Please consult websites for holiday operating schedules for libraries,
the Johnson Center, and other units.
Classified staff members who are required to work on designated holidays are eligible for compensatory leave for hours worked. To receive holiday pay, classified staff must
either be working or in paid leave status the workday before and after the holiday
period. Administrative and professional faculty members required to work on a designated holiday should arrange for alternative time off with their supervisors.
July 3 had been previously designated as payday for faculty, staff, and wage employees. Paycheck distribution will be on July 5. As an alternative, employees not on direct deposit may bring a legal-sized, self-addressed, stamped envelope to the
Payroll Office and their checks will be mailed on June 30. For those with direct deposit, paychecks will be posted to accounts on July 3.
