Branford Marsalis to Participate in Saxophone Symposium

The 34th annual International Saxophone Symposium, sponsored by the U.S. Navy Band, will be held at Mason’s Fairfax Campus on Friday, Jan. 7, and Saturday, Jan 8. Two public performances will feature international recording star Branford Marsalis.

The event and concerts are free and open to the public. Among the presenters is Mason’s own Jim Carroll, saxophonist and director of jazz studies. Marsalis will also present a clinic on Jan. 8.

The following Center for the Arts Concert Hall performances are nonticketed.

  • Friday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m.: U.S. Navy Concert Band with soloists Branford Marsalis, Barry Cockcroft, Chien-Kwan Lin and Navy Band Senior Chief Musician Timothy Roberts.
  • Saturday, Jan. 8, at 8 p.m.: U.S. Navy Band Commodores with special guest soloist Branford Marsalis.
