Inclement Weather Policy

The Washington, D.C., area has just experienced its first snowfall of the season, so now is a good time to review the university’s inclement weather policy regarding university closings and delayed openings.
Schedule changes due to weather are posted on the university’s website, www.gmu.edu, and announced by the Mason switchboard at 703-993-1000, GMU-TV, Mason Alert and local media outlets.
Following is an excerpt from the university’s inclement weather policy related to alternate work schedules:
“Although Virginia Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) Policy Number 1.35 applies only to classified employees, the university extends the spirit of this policy to the entire university community including the section entitled “Alternate Work Schedule” In this case, should the university close for a day(s) due to inclement weather or other emergency, those on compressed schedules will receive eight hours of university leave for each day the university is closed and will need to make up any additional hours in their alternate schedule by using appropriate leave or working additional hours during the week. Those on telework/remote work agreements will continue to work if at all possible to ensure continuity of operations.”
