The George Mason University Police Department is celebrating its 30th anniversary. A ceremony commemorating the occasion will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Student Union Building II Ballroom. All are welcome to attend.
The department was officially formed on Dec. 22, 1980. Capt. Joan McCall, communications bureau commander, is the only officer sworn in on that day that is still with the Mason Police Department. McCall will be giving the main presentation during the ceremony about the Department’s history and highlighting its accomplishments.
The program will include the George Mason University Police Department Honor Guard and comments from Chief of Police Mike Lynch and Mason’s Senior Vice President Maurice Scherrens.
