Dec. 11 is a special date in Mason history: It’s the birthday of the university’s namesake, George Mason.
Since the birthday falls on a Saturday this year, the university will celebrate the 285th birthday of Mason, the man, on Thursday, Dec. 9. Festivities will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the SUB I Patriot’s Lounge.
Appearances are scheduled for George Mason himself (actually an actor from Gunston Hall, Mason’s estate); President Alan Merten; and University Counsel Tom Moncure (an expert on George Mason history).
Other reasons to attend: free birthday cake, singing of the fight song by the Patriot Leaders, games, prizes and more.
The Office of Student Media will host the party.
