At its meeting on Dec.1, Mason’s Board of Visitors (BOV) voted to approve two new schools and a new bachelor’s degree. The board also approved a Code of Ethics for the university and conferred emeritus status for two professors.
- A new School of Physics, Astronomy and Computational Sciences, consolidating the two departments within the College of Science, was approved.
- The BOV approved making the Institute for Conflict Analysis and Resolution a school to be known as the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution.
- A BS in Forensic Science housed within the College of Science was approved.
These actions must be approved by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia before taking effect.
The BOV also approved a Code of Ethics for the university presented through the BOV’s Audit Committee.
The BOV conferred emeritus status on George Donohue as Professor Emeritus of Systems Engineering and Operations Research, effective immediately; and Christopher T. Hill as Professor Emeritus of Public Policy, effective Feb. 1, 2011.
Background materials on these actions can be found at the BOV website.
