It always helps to have a high level of patience, a solid ethical perspective and a knack for problem solving, but especially so in the case of December’s Employee of the Month, Rosalynn Holder.
Holder is a budget analyst in Mason’s Office of University Life where she carefully monitors budgets, provides advice and addresses issues that come with the territory of working within a tight budget.
“This award lets me know that my hard work is paying off,” Holder says. “I’m glad I can serve as a resource to so many people. Understanding budgets can be difficult at times, but knowing that I can help and letting people know I’m available to answer any question is what I’m here for.”
Holder began working at Mason back in 2000 for Sodexo. In 2004, she moved to the Office of Student Activities (now Student Involvement), where she worked until taking her current position in March 2009.
Among the many kudos Holder gets from her colleagues, nearly all emphasize her professionalism and integrity in the workplace.
“Hiring Rosalynn has turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made in my professional career; in her I found all that I was looking for and much more,” says Holder’s supervisor, Joe Sobieralski, director of business and finance of Auxiliary Enterprises and University Life.
“She is one of Mason’s gems. She goes above and beyond to get the job done and promotes the type of collegial attitude and professionalism that has made Mason one of the best places to work.”
Holder is well known among her coworkers for continually having a positive outlook and a calming manner to address any concern that comes her way.
“Among the many competent and dedicated professionals I’ve worked with, Rosalynn sits among the very top of this group of colleagues,” says Alissa Karton, assistant to the vice president of University Life. “Her enthusiasm for what she does and her genuine smile and positive attitude in tackling challenges make her one of the best Mason has to offer.”
Like most people who enjoy their jobs, Holder says it’s the people she works with and the office atmosphere that make coming to work a pleasure.
“I love working with the students and staff and having a job that promotes such a great environment,” Holder says. “I’ve had a great support system since starting this position and a great supervisor that has helped guide me in this position.”
Holder has a master’s degree in human resources from the University of Maryland University College, and a bachelor’s degree in hotel restaurant management from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore.
