The Board of Visitors task forces on parking, housing, and student satisfaction presented their reports yesterday at the Student Affairs Committee meeting. The parking task force recommendations include establishing a new reserved student parking lot near Presidents Park, establishing a flat-rate evening policy for the Parking Deck, and creating between two and five short-term, premium-priced parking spots in each key parking lot around the university. Student parking lots are currently being redrawn with narrower spaces to create up to 200 more spots.
The housing task force has been working on three major issues: the size of George Mason’s future residence population, changing the room assignment process, and focusing on the housing contract renewal next year. The room assignment process was changed earlier this year and was viewed as a success. To create more room for student residences, the housing offices in Carroll Hall are being moved to modules.
The student satisfaction committee is awaiting the results of several surveys, and has been focusing on expanding hours for student services and improving undergraduate academic advising.
