Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Mason will offer three Mason Cares suicide prevention training sessions for faculty and staff members this month.

Each year, approximately 1,100 college students commit suicide in the United States. To support members of the Mason community in helping students access assistance, CAPS at Mason offers Mason Cares, a gatekeeper training. This program informs participants of the warning signs of suicide and coaches them in how to talk about suicide and respond to students in crisis as well as how to guide them toward obtaining professional assistance.

CAPS at Mason will be offering this essential two-hour Mason Cares training to faculty and staff, free of charge, on:

  • Tuesday, Oct. 19, noon to 2 p.m., Fairfax Campus
  • Monday, Oct. 25, 1 to 3 p.m., Arlington Campus
  • Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2 to 4 p.m., Prince William Campus

To register, call 703-993-2380. For more information, see the website.
