Juniors Jesse Binnal and Adrienne Schiflett, both communication students, won scholarships from the American Institute of Parliamentarians to attend this year’s Floyd M. Riddick Practicum at the College of William and Mary Law School.
The pair will join two other students from California, and about 70 professional parliamentarians, at the practicum. Together, they will participate in intensive lectures, workshops, and group projects on parliamentary procedure–a set of rules that allows organizational business to be conducted fairly and efficiently.
This is the first year George Mason students have applied for the scholarship. In this annual national competition, it is unusual for two students from the same university to be chosen for the same practicum.
The American Institute of Parliamentarians fosters, promotes, and teaches the standards of parliamentary procedure, in keeping with the principles of parliamentary law and the adopted parliamentary authority.
