In a 27-1-1 vote at yesterday’s meeting, the Faculty Senate approved a motion to reaffirm its support of the University Committee on General Education’s proposal on general education, which the senate first approved at its March 8 meeting. The same motion also recommends that the Board of Visitors (BOV) approve this proposal rather than the modified proposal approved by the Faculty and Academic Standards Committee of the BOV.
The Faculty Senate also discussed a resolution to censure the BOV for diminishing the faculty’s “curricular authority,” and voted to reconsider the resolution at a special meeting on May 18.
The BOV discusses the general education proposal at its meeting on May 17.
