Mason’s 2010 fall convocation is set for Wednesday, Oct. 13, at 3 p.m. in the Mason Inn ballroom. According to Mason President Alan Merten, the gathering will highlight the university’s physical and intellectual advancements.

All members of the campus community are invited to attend.

Senior Vice President Morrie Scherrens and Michelle Marks, associate provost for graduate education, will join Merten as primary speakers at the convocation.

“The Mason Inn represents the latest in our own unique brand of excellence, as well as a significant step toward enhancing our institution’s reputation as an important resource for our region, the commonwealth of Virginia and even the nation,” says Merten.

A key part of the program is introducing the Mason Inn to as many members of the campus community as possible. On that day, tours of the facility will be provided from 2 to 3 p.m., and again from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The tours will be suspended from 3 to 3:30 p.m. for attendees to gather in the ballroom to hear the speakers’ presentations.

To facilitate faculty, staff and students at the Fairfax Campus attending the convocation, the university will provide shuttle buses to and from the Mason Inn beginning at 2 p.m. and running until shortly after 5 p.m.

Approximately every 12-15 minutes, buses traveling around Patriot Circle will stop at the following pick-up and drop-off points: Mattapaoni River Lane (by Innovation Hall), Aquia Creek Lane, Chesapeake River Lane, Masonvale, and Sandy Creek Way.

Mason community members at the Arlington and Prince William Campuses will be able to participate in the convocation via satellite or remote television.
