The second annual Patriot Anti-Violence Education (PAVE) 5K Fun Run is held on Sunday, May 7, on the Fairfax Campus. Presented by Intercollegiate Athletics in cooperation with Sexual Assault Services, the event raises money for nonviolence education, honors a victim of violence, and brings the community together in support of victims’ rights.
Entry or sponsorship is $25 per person. Registration begins at 9 a.m. at the Patriot Center, and the race starts at 10 a.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Aimee Willard Endowed Scholarship Fund, campus anti-violence education, and the Friends of Fairfax County Victim Assistance Network.
Among those who attended last year are Rep. Tom Davis (Virginia), Rep. Matt Salmon (Arizona), and Gail Willard, Aimee’s mother. Aimee Willard, a two-sport star in soccer and lacrosse at George Mason, was murdered in Philadelphia in 1996.
“We are excited to continue a positive, healthy, and fun-filled event to bring attention to this worthy effort,” says Lory Stimson, executive associate athletic director of external affairs. “We need to continue to address the issue of nonviolent education to all sectors of society. This race combines a popular activity with a strong endorsement of nonviolent alternatives.”
Title sponsors are Meltzer Group Benefits and Don Beyer Volvo, and associate sponsors are Sodexho Marriott Services, Comfort Inn, and Domino’s Pizza. For more information, call the Patriot Club at x33215.
