The Office of Admissions has received the largest number of freshman applications ever for the upcoming school year. As of April 11, Admissions had received more than 7,100 freshman applications–a 14 percent increase over the same time last year.
“An increase in applications provides us with an opportunity to respond to what the faculty has been requesting–an increase in the academic indices of the students we admit and subsequently those who enroll,” says Marcelle Heerschap, dean of admissions and enrollment development.
The rise includes a 27 percent increase in out-of-state applicants and an 18 percent increase among Virginia students from outside the Northern Virginia area. The academic quality of the applicant pool is also rising, with a seven-point increase in the SAT average and a .03 increase in the GPA average.
