Washington Youth Summit on the Environment to Be Held at Mason

Mason and its partners, the National Geographic Society and the National Zoo, will hold the Washington Youth Summit on the Environment (WYSE) from Sunday, July 11, to Friday, July 16.

The Fairfax Campus will be home base for WYSE, which welcomes 150 high school seniors from all over the country.

Among the featured speakers are the following Mason faculty members:

  • R. Christian Jones, professor of environmental science and policy, on freshwater ecology
  • Elizabeth Freeman, assistant professor in New Century College, on conservation of African elephants and rhinos
  • Sylvia Vitazkova, term assistant professor in New Century College, on disease transmission
  • Andrew Wingfield, associate professor in New Century College, on people‚Äôs relationship to the environment
  • Andrew Flagel, dean of admissions, on the college admissions process
