George Mason celebrates Census Awareness Day today with an information table set up at the Johnson Center North Plaza from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The table is staffed by members of the U.S. Census Bureau and promotes the importance of completing and returning the census.

The bureau also is accepting job applications for census takers (enumerators) and crew leaders. Census takers are responsible for locating households and listing addresses, as well as conducting interviews with respondents. They usually work in their own communities, and must be able to work evenings and weekends. Crew leaders supervise, train, observe, and review the work of a team of census takers. They meet with the census takers on a daily basis.

Student Geary Davis organized Census Awareness Day as part of a class project. He has worked closely with Housing and Residence Life to encourage students to complete the census and return it to the information table.
