Avis Foster, a senior applied mathematics major, is one of 83 college students from across the country named GEICO Achievement Award recipients, earning $1,000 for next year’s educational pursuits.
The GEICO awards are given to undergraduate students who have excelled academically in business, computer science, mathematics or a related program and have demonstrated leadership within their campus or community.
“GEICO highly values strong academic and leadership skills,” said Joe Thomas, regional vice president of the company’s mid-Atlantic operations based in Virginia Beach, in a news release.
“For over 20 years, the recipients of the GEICO Achievement Award have been chosen for their exceptional ability to demonstrate these skills. The program is meant to recognize and reward these students for their hard-earned accomplishments.”
Foster was also selected to participate in Mason’s Undergraduate Research in Computational Mathematics Program this past year.
