Mason to Hold Second Annual Journalism Conference for High School Students

Mason will host the 2010 Washington Journalism and Media Conference (WJMC) for high school students from Sunday, June 27, through Friday, July 2.

Students from all over the country are expected to attend. Mason’s Fairfax Campus will be the primary base for the conference, and events are planned at the National Press Club, the Newseum, USA Today headquarters and the U.S. Capitol.

Conference speakers represent a variety of news outlets, including NBC News, Politico, the Associated Press, the Washington Post, USA Today and many others.

Andrew Flagel, Mason dean of admissions and associate vice president for enrollment development, will discuss the college admissions process during the conference.

Mason faculty members serving as advisors or facilitators include Jack Censer, dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; Stephen J. Farnsworth, assistant professor of communication; Steve Klein, instructor in communication and coordinator of the electronic journalism minor; and Janette Kenner Muir, faculty member of New Century College and the Communication Department, and affiliate of the Women and Gender Studies Program and the Higher Education Program.
