Hampton Roads, the latest residence hall to be constructed on the Fairfax Campus, will reach substantial completion by the end of this month. The new student housing units will add 400 beds, bringing the campus’ overall capacity to 5,400 resident students.
Hampton Roads is part of the two-building construction project, Housing 7C. The other building, Eastern Shore, was finished last fall and added 200 student beds. With the completion of these two housing units, Mason will have nearly doubled its number of campus residents in the last seven years.
Like Eastern Shore, Hampton Roads features suite-style living, with groups of four to six students sharing a small living area and one or two bathrooms. But it also offers a number of “efficiency” rooms. In addition to the living spaces, there are several designated rooms for studying and multiple common areas for socializing.
Another group of residence halls already under construction, Housing 8A, will be almost identical to 7C in size, adding another 600 beds to campus by summer 2012.
