President Alan Merten praised the university community for its successes in engaging the community and region at the spring general faculty meeting held on April 4 in the Johnson Center. Looking back over the challenges he presented to faculty and staff members during his 1997 inaugural address, Merten noted that George Mason has made great strides in focusing its resources; coupling with the region; identifying key sources of financial support; and coupling teaching, research, and community service.
“We are on a journey,” he said. “I congratulate you on your accomplishments and the steps you are taking to better position our institution for the future. Our accomplishments are great. Our own expectations are even greater. Working together, we can make great things happen.”
